The lower Wisconsin River stretches along the Empire Prairie all the way to the Mississippi, in a 100 mile filled with scenic beauty. This untainted slice of wilderness still manages to marvel the naked eye, as it has done for eons. The River of a Thousand Isles, as it is known, creates, rather than follows, its own path, molding nature in with the patience and softness of a crafty artist's hand.

Many different sights and natural formations can be spotted there. The river and its banks are home to a wide variety of species, but humans are also welcome to indulge in several activities such as fishing, bird-watching, and canoing.

Just like a DNA print, the shape of the landscape tells its own history, reveals its past and foretells its future. That is why this area is appealing not only to the casual visitor, but also to the man of science eager to quench his thirst for knowledge.

The cities and towns that have settled along the river road, such as Lodi and Prairie du Chien, have been able to find a balance between their modern necessities and nature's timeless rhythm. These townships are attractions in and of themselves, and provide tourists with the basic conditions to make their stay even more enjoyable. In exchange, they only ask that the sacredness of mother nature be respected, and left untouched as it was found. After all, the river itself will take care of undertaking any changes that it deems necessary, just like has done for years on end.
